Desinformation och källkritik

Publicering: 2026-06-30

Information in English

Disinformation and misleading information can be spread to create fear, influence public opinion, or undermine trust in society. By thinking critically about your sources and relying on trustworthy information, you can reduce the risk of being misled while also contributing to Sweden’s civil preparedness.

During crises and other serious incidents, the amount of false or misleading information shared on social media, messaging services, and websites often increases. Sometimes this is due to misunderstandings, but in other cases false information is deliberately spread to influence people and create uncertainty.

Being able to assess information critically and think before sharing it is an important part of Sweden’s civil defence. By practising source criticism, you help reduce the spread of rumours and disinformation. The Swedish Psychological Defence Agency has produced the information guide Don’t Be Fooled, which provides practical advice on how to recognise and deal with misleading information.
